The Giving Collaborative (TGC) is a comprehensive philanthropy consulting firm headquartered in Connecticut. TGC’s mission is to deliver personalized philanthropy and management counsel to nonprofit organizations worldwide. The Firm has offices and representation nationally in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York and Washington, DC, and overseas in Cape Town, South Africa, and London, England. TGC is the leader in bespoke consulting solutions for mission-based organizations. TGC leadership has built their reputations on managing and directing high-performing fundraising operations.
TGC is seeking a proactive and disciplined Consultant to serve as a trusted, embedded partner to our diverse nonprofit clients. While this role supports organizations throughout the country, the Consultant will primarily focus on the Southeastern United States, leveraging a deep understanding of the region’s unique philanthropic landscape, from major metropolitan hubs to rural communities.
Moving beyond reactive project management, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating momentum and “pushing” value into client organizations by designing high-impact engagement strategies. You will provide visible leadership and strategic counsel across a portfolio of complex engagements, guiding clients through critical inflection points such as capital campaign planning, feasibility studies, and organizational assessments. This role requires the ability to act as a strategic architect, balancing macro-level planning with the micro-operational governance necessary to sustain long-term growth.
The Consultant will lead the design and execution of sophisticated fundraising infrastructures tailored to both national best practices and the specific cultural nuances of the Southeastern United States. Key responsibilities include:
Fundraising Architecture: Developing comprehensive cases for support and facilitating board retreats to align leadership.
Data-Driven Insight: Implementing prospect strategies utilizing wealth screening and predictive modeling.
Capacity Building: Establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for development teams and ensuring ethical adherence to industry standards regarding compensation and data stewardship.
National Service: Maintaining the agility to service and travel to clients across the United States as needed, ensuring a consistent TGC experience regardless of geography.
We are looking for a candidate who combines intellectual rigor with the ability to build deep, durable relationships. You must be comfortable working independently to drive results—maintaining consistent, substantive touchpoints with client leadership—while collaborating effectively within TGC’s team.
Whether serving healthcare systems, educational institutions, or conservation groups, you will possess a profound understanding of the donor lifecycle, from identification and cultivation to stewardship. A successful candidate will demonstrate a particular resonance with the spirit of the Southeast, ensuring our regional and national clients are positioned for enduring mission impact.
Capital Campaign Development & Management: Serve as a strategic architect to design and manage the sophisticated governance and high-impact momentum required for large-scale, transformational funding initiatives.
Feasibility & Planning Studies: Lead rigorous organizational assessments and external market testing to provide a data-driven roadmap and identify critical leadership for upcoming campaigns.
Interim & Outsourced Development Services: Act as an embedded partner overseeing the day-to-day tactical planning and strategic management of a client’s comprehensive development program.
Major Gift Program Implementation & Training: Implement professionalized performance monitoring systems while training staff and volunteers in deep, durable donor cultivation and solicitation techniques.
Advanced Prospect Research & Analytics: Utilize wealth screening and predictive modeling to provide in-depth donor profiles and identify high-potential funding opportunities across the donor lifecycle.
Development Program Assessments & Audits: Conduct comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analyses to provide tactical recommendations and build internal capacity based on industry benchmarks.
Planned Giving Program Development: Partner with philanthropy staff to design and execute comprehensive planned-giving programs that ensure long-term fiscal sustainability and mission impact.
Annual Program Development & Support: Map innovative goals and timelines for donor acquisition, renewal, and upgrades to build a resilient and expanding base of annual support.
Foundation Grant Writing: Produce highly detailed and competitive grant proposals that exceed the expectations of grant-makers through clear, comprehensive storytelling.
Staff, Board, & Volunteer Training: Deliver customized training modules and Standard Operating Procedures to align leadership and professionalize organizational fundraising efforts.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Therefore, the requirements listed represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree is required, though an advanced degree is preferred, alongside a minimum of 7–10 years of senior-level fundraising or nonprofit leadership experience.
Professional Certification: Preference will be given to candidates holding a CFRE certification or a Master’s degree in a related field, reflecting a commitment to the highest professional standards and advanced tactical knowledge.
Language Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required; multi-lingual ability is considered a significant asset.
Job Type: Contract, Commission, and Project-Based.
Health & Safety Requirements: As many of our clients are healthcare systems, all Consultants are required to be vaccinated in accordance with industry-specific safety requirements.
Must have access to a home-based office to work remotely when needed. This includes the ability to effectively utilize Zoom and other virtual meeting applications. Other work locations will vary based on client partners but primarily in the Southeastern United States.
